An entrance doorway can either welcome you like the warm smile on a person’s face or can leave you feeling coldly indifferent.
Actually, a major feature of any building, especially a home, is the entrance doorway. It is a filter to the spirit of the space which it protects.
Consider the stained glass doors of homes with their spidery cames which were a common feature in the past, even if the design was unsophisticated, or the timber doors to public or office buildings.
And what about the symbolic features of doorways to places of worship ? What a pleasure to be confronted by them. All this seems to have now disappeared, to be replaced by doorways which have become anonymous and are there only to be opened and closed.
